The immigration court granted asylum to an Egyptian national of Christian faith, in light of the political unrest and religious persecution occurring in Egypt, despite passage of many years from the time of initial entry before the individual applied for asylum. The court found plausible the claim of fear of future persecution if the applicant was returned to Egypt, even where the individual had criminal record, had lived in a third country for several years, and was found not to have suffered past persecution while still living in Egypt.
